Info about Smashing Pumpkins and Smashing Pumpkins Tours

  • In 1991, the Smashing Pumpkins signed with Virgin Records after releasing their Lull LP.  They supported their album with a Smashing Pumpkins tour and they opened for several big acts, including Jane’s Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Guns N’ Roses.  The tour was tumultuous, however, with band members Iha and Wretzky suffering a messy breakup, Chamberlain becoming addicted to drugs, and Billy Corgan suffering from severe depression.
  • In 2006, the Smashing Pumpkins announced they were reuniting.  Later on, returning band members Billy Corgan (vocals/guitar) and Jimmy Chamberlain (drums/percussion) toured with musicians Jeff Schroeder (vocals/guitar), Ginger Reyes (bass/vocals) and Lisa Harrington (keyboard/vocals) to support their newest album, Zeitgeist.
  • The Smashing Pumpkins broke up in 2000, largely due to internal conflict, drug abuse and diminishing sales.
  • After the release of their album, Adore, the Smashing Pumpkins went on tour to support the album.  At each stop of the Smashing Pumpkins tour, the band donated all the profits from their ticket sales to local charities.  By the end of the tour, they wound up donating over 2.8 million to charity.
