Triva about Weezer and Weezer Tours
- Weezer went on hiatus from 1997-2000. They reunited in 2000 when they were offered a high paying gig to play in Japan in August of 2000. This caused them to start playing live shows again – but for awhile they decided not to play under the name “Weezer.” Instead they played under the name “Goat Punishment” so that they could play only to long-time fans who recognized the name. They ultimately resumed the name “Weezer” in 2000 when they joined the Warped Tour.
- In 2008, Weezer embarked on what they called, the “Hootenanny Tour.” On the Hootenany Tour, fans were invited to bring along their own instruments and play along with the band.
- In 2001, Weezer had to replace bassist Mikey Welsh. Welsh had gone missing, but had eventually checked into a psychiatric hospital. Weezer eventually replaced him with Scott Shriner.
