• The South Pacific musical is based on the 1948 book, Tales from the South Pacific.  
• South Pacific won the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 1948.
• The South Pacific musical was nominated for ten Tony Awards and won every single one of them.
• In June of 2005, a concert version of the South Pacific musical was performed at Carnegie Hall.  It starred Reba McEntire, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Alec Baldwin. 
• When South Pacific first opened on Broadway, there were $400,000 in advance South Pacific tickets sold.  People wanted South Pacific tickets so badly that the house seats were selling for $200 or more.  This nearly caused the attorney general to close down the show.  However, the South Pacific ticket scalpers were never caught, so the South Pacific shows went on unhindered.
