Fame Kills – Kanye West and Lady Gaga Tour

September 25th, 2009

I don’t know about you, but when I saw that Lady Gaga and Kanye West were touring together, I didn’t quite understand how the two performers collided.  And to be quite honest, I still don’t get it.  Lady Gaga, taking the world by storm with songs such as “Just Dance” and “Poker Face”, recently disturbed audiences at the VMA Awards show when she covered herself in fake blood during her “Paparazzi” performance.  She openly embraces the gay community and insists that the upcoming tour with Kanye West will be kept “very gay”.  Kanye.  Gay.  For some reason, I just cannot wrap myself around that.  And that is why I am intrigued by this collaboration.

Kanye West, known for his hits “Gold Digger”, “Jesus Walks”, and “Heartless”, also loves his share of controversy.  Recently disrupting Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the VMA Awards, Mr. West has a lot of apologizing and soul searching to do.  Hopefully, the decision to kick off the Fame Kills Tour with Lady Gaga will rack him up some major brownie points with the fans.  Who knows?  Maybe he will acquire some new admirers on the way.

If you are as curious as I am about how this show will turn out, you can check out Cheap Tickets Monster for the best deal on tickets for the Fame Kills Tour.  Shows start on November 10, 2009 in Phoenix, AZ and continue until mid-January of next year!

Pearl Jam 2009 Tour News

August 25th, 2009

One band.  Pearl Jam.  One song.  “Jeremy“.  I can remember this song dominating the radio waves during my high school years, blaring in not only in locker rooms, but also on our Walkmans (yes, I said Walkmans).  “Jeremy“, released in 1992 and written by the band’s lead vocalist Eddie Vedder and bassist Jeff Ament, was inspired by the story of a boy who killed himself in front of his classmates.  I remember this song being a staple of my senior year of high school.  You couldn’t go anywhere without hearing it.

A few years later, when I was in college, I finally got to see Pearl Jam perform in San Francisco.  I remember sitting out in the parking lot all morning waiting for the tickets to go on sale, because we all knew it would be a sold out venue.  And low and behold, Pearl Jam didn’t disappoint us.  Thousands of fans filled the stadium, and they were treated to one of the most amazing concerts I have ever attended.  Of course that is just my opinion, but one cannot leave a Pearl Jam concert with any complaint of “they aren’t as good as they are on their CD” or “I thought they would have played longer, considering I spent so much money to see them”.

Pearl Jam, widely known for their album Ten, has kicked off a 26-show tour, recently adding shows in Vancouver, Utah, and Washington.  The tour will include four shows in both Philadelphia, PA and Universal City, CA, crossing into Canada, and even going “down under” to Australia.  You have until November 29, 2009 to see Pearl Jam, so head to cheapticketmonster.com for the cheapest Pearl Jam tickets you can find!

Green Day 21st Century Breakdown Review

21st Century Breakdown

I have to say, I’m surprised by how much I like the new Green Day album.  I grew up listening to “Dookie,” but over the years Green Day kind of fell off of my radar.  Of course, I heard songs like “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” “American Idiot,” and “Good Riddance,” but other than that I hadn’t paid much attention to them…until I decided to listen to “21st Century Breakdown.” Here’s an overview of my thoughts:

Like “American Idiot,” “21st Century Breakdown” is a concept album.  Through two characters – Christian and Gloria (whose names are obviously symbolic), the album explores a kind of apocalyptic vision of the post-Bush world.  Chock full of criticisms about religion, war, and the corporate world, the album illustrates the story of Christian and Gloria as they struggle to fight injustices and hypocrisies, often wondering if what they’re fighting for is even worth it.
